| Karin Zukowski - "Karizu" |
|
A passion for creating since childbirth and the educational availability to all person in the United States had this artist jump across the Atlantic from Vienna, Austria via Munich, Germany at the age of 23. First Los Angeles but then New York City made the most sense. She helped build her own family in Bergen and Rockland County communities, outside of NYC and became "Super Woman" of the seventies. While she had a career as a bilingual executive secretary in the upper hierarchy of German-American companies in New Jersey, Karizu never ignored her main passion -- art. Early on, she painted and drew with her children but also painted birthday cards for colleagues. There were a few personal commissions as well. From etching classes at the Ringwood Art Center, Ringwood, NJ, Society of Illustrators, and Parson's School of Design, NYC, during the early years to earning a BFA cum laude from the distinguished Ringling School of Art and Design. Karizu earned honors and awards while being included in many exhibits, starting 1988 through 2002. Karizu's paintings and illustrations have been published and collected here and abroad. In 1998, Karizu spent time as a watercolor landscape instructor in Tuscany, Italy, while her local teaching experience included varied art classes such as the Port Manatee Jail and at the Juvenile Detention Center in Bradenton, FL. Karizu has lived more than half of her life in this country and she feels that her art has been influenced by the timeless art of the Renaissance period, frequently in a surreal manner. The use of documented or imagined symbolism is often included in her art. |
