Frank Creaturo
|
Frank Creaturo was born in Brooklyn, New York. He attended the School of Industrial Arts and the School of Art & Design in New York. He has had numerous showings and received countless awards during his career. He was also featured on Eyewitness News in New York City. Frank moved to Sarasota in 1988 and immediately gained recognition for his works. He has had one man shows at the Hang-Up Gallery and the Bennett Gallery in Sarasota and also the Dyansan Gallery on Long Boat Key. He is now being featured at Café L’Europe in St. Armand’s Circle and now at the Handel Gallery. Creaturo is known for his colorful,
contemporary, and abstract art. His style varies from his contemporary
works, which are free and colorful to his realistic paintings that show
the feelings of pride and honor of the early 1900 street vendors and
people. His strokes, drips, and squeezings of paint seem to
magically float in front of flat color fields casting shadows on the
canvas, giving the objects a sculpture like appearance. Creaturo adds a personal element to
the technique in the form of non-threatening graffiti. Some of the
paintings offer bits of wisdom, math problems, tic-tac-toe games and
squiggles that hug the canvas, traveling around and through the fields
of color. The viewer is challenged to find a connection between
the pictorial image and the graffiti.
